The Gospel (from the Greek euangelion, meaning “good news”) is the central message of Christianity found in the New Testament. It is the announcement of what God has done through Jesus Christ to save humanity, restore relationship with God, and bring eternal life.
At its simplest, the Gospel is:
The good news that Jesus Christ lived, died for sins, rose from the dead, and offers salvation to all who believe in Him.
This is summarized clearly in:
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He was raised on the third day…”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
The Bible teaches that humanity’s deepest problem is not only behavior, but separation from God caused by sin.
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
“The wages of sin is death…” — Romans 6:23
What this means:
Sin separates people from God
No one can fix this separation through moral effort alone
The result is spiritual death and broken relationship with God
The Gospel centers on what God has done—not what humans achieve.
A. Jesus’ life
Jesus lived a sinless, perfect life, fully obedient to God.
B. Jesus’ death
Jesus died on the cross as a substitute for sinners:
“He was pierced for our transgressions…” — Isaiah 53:5
“The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” — John 1:29
“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin ”
– 2 Corinthians 5:21
Meaning:
He took the penalty of sin upon Himself
He died in the place of humanity
C. Jesus’ resurrection
Jesus rose from the dead:
“He is not here; He has risen!” — Luke 24:6
“The Fact is, christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep” – 1 Corinthians 15:20
This proves:
His identity as Son of God
Victory over sin and death
Power to give eternal life
The Gospel is not earned—it is received.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith…” — Ephesians 2:8–9
Key truths:
Salvation is a gift from God
It is not based on works or religious performance
It is received through faith in Jesus
The Gospel calls for a response:
A. Faith
Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation
“Without faith it is impossible to please God”
– Hebrews 11:6
“I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father (God) accept through me” – John 14:6
“it is the righteousness of God through faith In Jesus Christ for all who believe” – Romans 3:22
“Truly, I say to you, the one who believes has eternal life.” – John 6:47
B. Repentance
Turning away from sin and turning toward God
“Repent and believe the gospel.” — Mark 1:15
“Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out”
– Acts 3:19
Those who receive the Gospel are promised:
A. Forgiveness of sins
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” — Ephesians 1:7
B. New life
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
C. Peace with God
“We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Romans 5:1
D. Eternal life
“Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16
E. Access to God
“we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”
– Romans 5:2
“Approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of need” – Hebrews 4:16
“Let us approach God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.” – Hebrews 10:22
Jesus commanded His followers to spread this message:
“Go and make disciples of all nations…” — Matthew 28:19
“If our gospel is hidden, it is hidden fro those who perish” – 2 corinthians 4:3-4
The Gospel is:
Personal (for individuals)
Global (for all nations)
Ongoing (meant to be shared)
If we are saved, we ought to be on mission. If you are not on mission, what is holding you up? If it is sin, repent. If it is fear, remember God does not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. If it is lust, God says flee from it. If it is procrastination, the bible says to set you minds on things above. If it is your surroundings, then change your environment. No more excuses, no more delays. Let’s get busy for the kingdom of God.
Let’s partner.
